Currency

What is the currency used in London? Is it
the pound or the new euro? Where is the best
place to exchange money in London?

Ann, it's still the pound. Britain's not part of the EU.

The UK is most certainly a member of the European Union.

And the best place to obtain pounds is from an ATM machine, direct from your own bank account back home. You will need to know your PIN number (ideally 4 digits), and it is wise to have two cards, two different accounts perhaps just in case of machine malfunction.

The best way to handle most purchases is to just use credit cards and keep to a minimal need for cash.

If you feel that you must have some pounds sterling before you go, I recommend American Express offices. Keep in mind that you will be paying about $5 for every $100 for that piece of mind of taking some with you.

Best wishes,

Rex
ATMS's are all over the place. You will hve no trouble whatsoever. 99% of the places in the UK take credit cards too so actual money is not needed all that much if you want to charge things and pay one bill when you get home.
