Cuena Spain
 

Is Cuenca Spain worth the stop if we went through heading southeast out of Madrid on our way to Andalusia? We have ten days and think we will spend most of it in the recommended destinations of Granada, Sevilla, Ronda, and Toledo. Thank you in advance.

Cuenca is not in the way to Andalucia.

If you head to Sevilla you'l be going to the south, while cuenca is headint to the East. It's more a place to visit in your way to Valencia.

Some other places, small but interesting in your way to Sevilla are Consuegra and a detour for Baeza and Ubeda.

Another possible route to Sevilla, and slightly shorter, rather than going by A4, is going by A5 (west) and then to the south by A66, with Trujillo, Merida and Caceres in your way.

Apart of that, Cuenca worths a visit. Can be done even as a daytrip from Madrid.

cuenca is out of the way and there is plenty to see on the other two routes mentioned.

if you DO go via merida and caceres,(excelent idea) stop over at oropesa.. one of my favorite parador castles, even for a short photo op.

you won´t be disppointed.

and consuegra is GREAT if it falls near your route.

We had a brief stay in Cuenca (only one night, as I recall) and it poured down rain, so we didn't get out to see the casas colgadas, the "hanging houses."

When we left the town, we became lost, which was great, as we were able to see the fantastic geology of the area. The next time I go to Spain, I will definitely go out of my way to see the hanging houses, as well as to see the geography of the nearby "Enchanted City."
