Cruise Tours in St. Petersburg or go with a different company

Hi,

Taking a cruise on Princess Cruise's in June. We are in St. Petersburg for 2 days. Curious to see resoponses on taking a princess tour (very expensive, but I know we are safe) or going with Alla Tours, Denrus or Red October. Thoughts???

We made a private tour with Anastasia and it was absolutely fantastic.

VIP service, excellent guide, highly personalized tour, extremely reliable and great value for money!! Send her a mail with your wishes and she will make you a proposal.

We did a private tour for 14 of us with Denrus on a recent cruise stop in St. Petersburg and it was well worth the money.

BUT, I would caution you that in the Hermitage, in particular, where it can get absolutely JAMMED with various groups it really HELPS if your guide uses some sort of audio system...the kind which lets you wear headphones so you can hear ONLY the guide.

You might ask about that.

As safe as the ship's tours, if you are worried stay on the ship.

We used Red October (Victoria)for 3 days and always felt perfectly safe. They really give you individual attention as to your personal comfort and safety they you won't get from the masses on the Princess busses.

If you have already booked Princess....don't read any further.

We just took a Grand Circle tour of Russia - 4 nights in Moscow, 7 day fabulous river cruise visiting a different village daily, and 3 nights in St. Petersburg.

All was escorted but we did lots on our own too. It's an amazing country and Putin has it on the fast track to capitalism.

As luxurious as the new Grand Circle ships were, it was nice to check into a hotel at both ends of the river cruise and they too were new and outstanding. The traffic in both cities is awful and you won't like having to commute daily from the ports for sightseeing and seeing thousands of other disembarking.

We expected a third world country and that was because we had not done our homework. We were so pleased how wonderful the people treated us and how clean everything was. Cuisine, and it was cuisine, was Excellent! The tour directors tried so hard to please; taking you to areas that were not included on the tour brochure. In addition, you were free to go where you chose...no KGB...in sight anyway.

Princess is lovely but I GUARANTEE Grand Circle will be an eye opener. Their ships rated #2 in a popular travel magazine twice in a row. Take a look.

If you have any direct questions, please feel free to write me

Katherine

Join us 7/31-8/l/2008 St. Petersburg, Alla Tour...

Two couples, 4 seniors from California, have arranged a tour of St. Petersburg (from Carnival Splendor) for 2 days with Alla. It is the "Moderate Tour". We would like 8 or so on the tour. Let me know if you are interested and I can email you the particulars. Thanks...Sasi
