Crowne Plaza Amsterdam

If anyone has stayed in either Crowne Plaza City Centre or Crowne Plaza American in Amsterdam, please let me know which one is preferable to say at and why. Thanks!

Didn't stay at the City Centre, but we walked past it daily. It's in an active part of the city not far from Dam Square and within walking distance of Centraal Station. I'm not familiar with the other CP location, but I would give a thumbs up to City Centre for its proximity to shopping, restaurants and activity. Others would have to comment on the quality of the property itself, but I would presume it must be somewhat decent to maintain the franchise standards.

Have stayed in both on business....no complaints on either but I prefer the location of the "American". While downtown sounds convenient the American is still within a short walk of the centre but nearer the more interesting areas like the Jordaan where there are great cafes and the nicest streets in Amsterdam. I found the downtown a little overrun and touristy. The American also has a fantastic art deco bar for drinks, snack and cocktails. Great hotel.

Stayed at CP American last month and found it to be very nice. The location was great and the tram stops outside the hotel. Nice little bar and the restaurant in the hotel was quite good. It is still within reasonable walking distance of Dam Square area. Can catch a canal boat out side of hotel across street..and there is a great Indonesian Restaurant across the bridge to the right.
