Crowds in Germany in early September

We have two tickets on reserve, leaving the 30th of August and home the 15th of September, into Frankfurt and out of Zurich. I know that will mean some miles for us, but we don't get to go often, and I try to have us see a reasonable amount of area without going overboard. It is 244 from Frankfurt to Munich and then 195 on to Zurich. Doable in 13 days? Also, I am wondering if the summer crowds will have thinned out by then. Any opinions on how reasonable the distance is and whether or not there will still be crowds at major tourist sites? Thanks, PJK

I should have made clear that the 244 and 195 refer to miles from place to place, not price of tickets.

It should be a very nice time to go, and the distances are reasonable. Are you planning to rent a car? By train, Frankfurt to Münich is just under 4 hours, and Münich to Zürich is just over 4 hours.

Easily doable.

Crowds should have thinned by then - in fact it appears to be almost perfect time for travel as you are well likely to experience some nice late summer days in the region.

BTW While the crowds may have thinned, there are quite likely still quite a number of "Krauts" around, as some of our British friends might wish to phrase it...

enzian, We will probably use both types of transportation. That is what we have done successfully in Italy and France. From what reading I have done so far, sounds like having a car at least part of the time would be a major plus. Any opinions welcome. PJK
