Cross-stitch needles are OK on domestic and transatlantic flights!

I just got back from Italy on Oct. 4. I flew from JFK to Venice and home from Venice via Paris and Atlanta. Not one security person had issue with my cross-stitch needles or with the infant baby fingernail clippers I use to cut my thread. I flew Delta and Air France. Also, Air France didn't use plastic knives on board the flight from Venice to Paris. They used the regular stainless steel ones. I flew busines class on Delta and they used plastic knives--they gave us 2 or 3 in case they broke.

Cassie - don't be so sure. It entirely depends on the security station and airport staff. In the last 3 weeks I have flown or taken eurostar through SFO, Paris, LHR, LGW, DGA and LAX. The standards were different in each place. I saw clippers confiscated. I saw cross stich needles questioned and confiscated after the "lady" threw a fit about the possibility of them being taken away. But I also heard staff say that clippers and needles are OK.

So - the bottom line is don't take them on board if you value them. Put them in checked luggage. Or, leave them at home and buy new ones at you detination.

And if you experience indordinate delays to pass through security, you can put the blame on those who try to push the rules.

Some people have no consideration for their fellow passengers.

I do have consideration for my fellow passengers. I called Delta and Air France both before I left on my trip and both of them said that it depended upon security at the different airports. There was no strict set of rules that applied everywhere at every airport. I didn't care if they confisciated my cross-stitch needle or my fingernail clippers, but if I could use them on board, why not? I am glad that I brought them and I didn't cause anybody any delays! Security was doing random checks of people's bags regardless of whether they had something suspicious in them or not. Let me tell you--a cross-stitch needle could not poke out someone's eye, but my fork that was given to me on board certainly could have!!
