Cross border card into Bosnia

I would like to rent a car and do an overnight visit to Mostar during my visit to Croatia.

Renting a car seemed like the best solution until I found out through Economy Car Rentals that there was a Cross border card charge to take a car from Croatia into Bosnia. It is significant too ($120 CAD).

Obviousily that is not an option at that price for a two-day visit. Does anyone know if this applies to all rentals or if there is an alternative solution. I wasn't keen on the bus or train journey as I wanted to have the freedom of stopping and going as I please.

Much appreciated.

I have never heard of such a charge. I have rented cars in Croatia and legally taken them into Bosnia with no additional charge. I would find a new car rental company. Try Euro Car Rentals in Dubrovnik or Europcar anywhere in Croatia.

We have a car rented from AutoEurope and found the same thing as 99billy, a big fee to go into Montenegro. I looked at about 6 different car rental places and they all had a big fee or a prohibition.

We're going to try to take a day trip over.

We recently rented with AutoEurope with pick-up in Zagreb. We were told there MAY be an additional charge for Bosnia & Montenegro, but when we got the rental agency, they said it was included. All paperwork seemed in order and we had no trouble at any of the borders. While our night in Mostar was nice, it certainly wouldn't have justified the additional cost.

If you want to be absolutely sure, try contacting the rental agency prior to booking. It might be worth the peace of mind.

BTW, we enjoyed our stay at Kriva Cuprija, which was very close to the Old (New) Bridge, and very cute.
