I am considering a change in plans, skipping Mostar, but adding Slovenia instead of Istria. Our ultimate destination is Bologna, Italy. Because of the high cost of a Dubrovik-Bologna rental, I had been planning to drop the Dubrovnik-rented car in Rovinj, take a bus from there to Trieste, and then renting a car in Trieste to drive to Bologna. If we decide to go to Slovenia instead of Istria, our immediately previous stop would be Plitvice Lakes. What are the considerations in deciding between rental car vs. train/bus for this itinerary? I think we could keep the rental car between Dubovik and Zagreb without any problem. If the border crossings from Croatia to Slovenia or from Slovenia to Italy drive up the costs substantially, we could take trains or buses for those parts.

I'm planning a trip like this : Serbia > Bosnia > Montenegro > Serbia. I'll rent the car from Belgrade airpoty and bring back the same location. Do you think I'll encounter any problems? Anyone who crossed the same borders with a rental car?

We are doing a similar trip like many other here in July, despite that we will start in Belgrade and end in Athens. Our biggest problem at the moment is to find i rental company that doesn´t charge a lot for the drop off fee. So my question is do you know any company that don´t have a huge drop off fee and that allow us to drive through Bosnia, Montenegro, FYROM and Albania (and if possible also Kosovo, but that seems to be a bit to much to ask for)?

Dropping off the car in Athens that you rented in Serbia, and not expecting high fees is not realistic.

I have my doubts if that would be possible in the first place, but assuming that a company will allow you to drop off the car in Athens, this car would have to return to Belgrade.

That means that someone will have to travel to Athens to collect the car and drive it back to Serbia. They fee would cover these expenses plus the overnight and meals of the driver.....

I am interested to rent a car in Athens, drive to Albania and FYROM and return the car back to Athens.
Do you know of any rental company which provides such a service please?
I have already been to Albania and drove from Tirana till Bilisht which is on the border with Greece and I fell in love with the country and the friendliness of the people, hence wanting to revisit it.

Leaving Greece for Albania and Fyrom with a rental car, is not allowed by any car rental company in Greece i am afraid.
