Nina - so far I'm looking at staying at The Palace Hotel in Hvar. It has a view of the harbor and is reasonable. I thought maybe Stari Grad but I don't know.

Hi Mark,

We are going to be there in mid May, flying into Dubrovnik and staying there for 3 nights. We're planning on taking an early bus to Split and then water transportation to Hvar. So it is good to know about the 2:00 pm boat there. We've booked at Hotel Palace in Hvar for 3 nights.

I thought I saw somewhere that there was a morning ferry/hydrofoil to Split from Hvar, but can't locate that information again. We'll spend the night in Split before flying to Zagreb, then heading off into Slovenia for a week.

If your co workers have any input on the transportation to/from Hvar & Split, I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Nancy -
No problem about checking with my co-workers. Also - you may want to check with the National Croatian Tourist Board, located in NYC (I have the number somewhere - I'll dig it up for you). They may be able to help you with time tables. Another angle - at virtualtourist.com there are members who live in Croatia who might be able to help you. I wrote a couple of them who helped me plan my trip last September (not sure if you have to register to post).

Love your report!
Croatia is one place Ive never considered, but thanks to Lina, I think I just might look into this further!

Mark,

If you are considering Stari Grad, know that it is a much more quieter town than Hvar town. Hvar town is much more bustling - especially in the evening.

Nina

Nancy, Whilst checking Jadolinija's website for our trip in June I checked the local lines timetable. During May there is a passenger cataraman from Hvar to Split at 4.30 a.m. Might be earlier than you would like but may be of interest to you. Have a great trip, Croatia is a really special country to visit.
|
Thank you, Pat. 4:30 is a little early, but at least I know there is that option. I appreciate the information. Now that we have our airline tickets and most hotels booked, I've been spending more time drooling over photos of Croatia.

Thanks to you too Mark. I'll see if I can get some more info from the sites you mentioned. Sounds like you are going to have another nice trip to Croatia.

In early October there was a ferry around 8 a.m. from Hvar to Split (about 2 hours) and an earlier boat, too, that may have been faster.

Nancy -
Here's the phone number for the National Croation Tourist Board, 1800.829.4416

Just came across another Croatia guide book that looks great - Nelles Croatia - lots of photographs of towns and coastline throughout Croatia. Saw it at B&N - Amazon has to special order it for some reason.
