If you can get there without a car, there are ferries that can take you to different places on the lake.

Is the transportation to places like Bellagio and Lugano easy without a car in Lake Como? Just confused as to which is better, car or no car. Seems like both have pros and cons.

Thanks

And where are you planning to actually stay? We stayed in Bellagio and had no trouble at all getting to Varenna, Tremezzo, and Menaggio without a car. But if you're staying in a villa somewhere not near a ferry dock, things would be more difficult.

To get there (from Venice), we took the ES train to Milan, changed to a regional train to Varenna, and then took the ferry to Bellagio. Not hard, especially with not much luggage.

It is easy to get around by ferry and walking. Would be expensive and difficult to park a car and you would likely not use it at the lake unless you wanted to drive along the coast one day.

It is much easier to walk onto the ferry than to wait in the car line.

Expect you could rent a car in Como city (or other lake places) when/if you want to tool around in one or go to your next destination.
