Croatia - Restaurants
We are 2 families travelling with our adult children. We will be visiting Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Korcula, Hvar and Trogir.
We are looking for recommendations of family run restaurants where you get to engage with the family. Those small lesser publicized restaurants that are perhaps down an alley way out of the main tourist area. A place you maybe discovered while wandering the streets / neighbourhoods of any of the above places. Our budget is pretty limited (not ideal but the reality). We don't mind walking out of the main squares etc to find these family run / personal restaurants. I look forward to hearing your suggestions. Thank you. |
Dubrovnik: Consider Konoba Rozario.

In Hvar Town with no car - Konoba Menego
If you have a car, Dvor Dubokovic in Pitve is a very good option with a beautiful outdoor seating area, The son of the owner of this place owns Otto and Frank in Zagreb, but I am not sure if you will run into a lot of members of family there. https://visitjelsa.hr/en/Gastronomij...vor-dubokovic/ |
In Korčula, I liked Bistro Gajeta. Family run restaurant with nice atmosphere.

We just returned from 3 weeks in the balkans. In Zagreb, we were told to go to Vinodol which was great and the Bistro at the Esplanade hotel which was average. Reservations at both are necessary.
In Dubrovnik, we really liked the Arsenal - had lunch there and later in the trip we went back for late evening drinks and people watching. In Hvar, the Patio restaurant that is to the left of the Palace Elsabeth hotel was lovely. We also ate at Cafe Sol on the main square and at Gariful on the Riva. Avoid Gariful. VERY expensive and small portions. My husband stopped for pizza on our way back to the hotel! |
