Vienna Airport Transportation and Exchanging Euros for Dollars
I'm planning for my return trip from Vienna to the US and have a couple of questions I was hoping for help with. My plane leaves from Vienna at 6:30 am - what would be the best way to get to the airport in the morning? I would prefer not to take a cab and would love to take public transportation. Is an hour long enough to navigate the airport for a return flight? Also, what is the most cost efficient way to exchange Euros for dollars? I know there are stations set up all around town, but they tend to charge pretty big fees. Any thoughts?

Regarding what to do about left over Euros: here are some options.
1. Keep them. If you are returning back to a Euro zone soon or can sell to someone else going to Europe. You benefit from this arrangement by avoiding being hit by ~10%+ fee and your friend can obtain Euros before the trip right at the exchange rate.
2. Estimate how much Euro you need up to boarding the plane. Pay your accommodation with the Euro minus what you need to make it to the plane . Supplement payment with a CC. If you need to get a bite at the airport, you can further consume Euros if you still have them.
One hour is NOT enough if you are flying back directly to the US from Vienna.

You should be at the airport at 5AM, no later, for an international departure.
The CAT (City Airport Train) doesn't start running from the center of Vienna until 05:36 - way too late for you.
You can take the S-Bahn, the first train in the morning leaves at 04:30 from Wien-Mitte and takes 25 minutes. Costs $4.20Euros
You can take the Bus: From Wien Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz it leaves at 04:00 and 04:30 and takes 20 minutes.

Oh, about the money - I agree with the previous advice - keep the euros, you or somebody you know will be glad to use them again before you know it. The exchange rate may fluctuate a bit in the mean time, but life's a gamble anyway, so why worry?
