Croatia Itinerary Help

Hello,

My husband and I (late 20's) are doing 9 days in Croatia in mid May 2013. We're flying from Vienna to Dubrovnik (arriving 2pm) on the 1st day and flying back home to USA from Split at 7:30 am on the last day. I'm trying to figure out how to split up our days inbetween. Reading over all the forums here I've come up with the following itinerary, please let me know what you think or what changes you'd make. I'm interested in all recommendations and suggestions:

Day 1: Arrive in Dubrovnik 2pm
Day 2: Dubrovnik
Day 3: Day trip to Montenegro
Day 4: Day trip to Mljet (tentative) or maybe another island?
Day 5: Ferry to Korcula
Day 6: Korcula
Day 7: Ferry to Split
Day 8: Split
Day 9: Fly home 9 am.

I know there are many diff islands and so the variations can be endless. Please help me out. Also, maybe it's better to take a bus to Split? Thanks in advance.

I'd keep the trip to Korcula, but note with the ferry schedule you may be better off going to the other end of Korcula and getting a ferry from Vela Luka to Split. It just depends on if there is a ferry from Korcula to Split that day, which you can check at http://www.jadrolinija.hr/.
Alternatively, you can check the bus schedule to see if it is faster, as it may be.
Are you going to rent a car for the Montenegro trip or do a tour?
If you do not visit Mljet you can visit one of the Elafiti islands or just hope over to Lokrum.

I am not sure if we're going to rent a car or take a tour to Montenegro. Leaning towards a tour, I think.

Looks like it should work to me!

As yorkshire notes, you should check the ferry schedules to be sure you know your options and where you need to be when.

If you can time your trip so that you can see the moresca while in Korcula, definitely consider doing so.

And don't miss the Buza Bar in Dubrovnik!

Mid-May is a lovely time to be in these places - enjoy!

The Jadrolinija boat runs between Dubrovnik only on Sunday and Thursday. Otherwise, there's a bus from Dubrovnik to Korcula that crosses via the short ferry from Orebic.

If you're driving, you can take the Orebic ferry also. But it's hard to get the car to Split. Either catch the Sunday/Thursday Jadrolinija boat, or a ferry from Domince, near Korcula town, to Drvenik, south of Split on the coast, or go back via Orebic.

If you're on foot, there a catamaran Korcula to Split Mondays through Saturdays, leaving at 6 AM. This catamaran stops at Hvar. Consider overnighting on Hvar instead of daytripping to Mljet.

Close perusal of the ferry schedules -- when you can get them -- is necessary for travel among the Croatian islands. Here's a useful site: www.korculainfo.com.

If we take the catamaran from Korcula to Hvar and stay overnight, I'm assuming to can then take that same catamaran from Hvar to Split?

Mimar Feb 26th, 2013 07:02 AM

Yep, Hvar to Split.

Sounds great, I think that's what we'll do instead of Mijet....bc we def wanted to check both Hvar and Korkula so this will be a great balance of both.
