Croatia Itinerary Critique

Hi! I think I finally have a rough draft of my itinerary to Croatia next month and am looking for opinions on what we have chosen:

Apr 27: Arrive in Dubrovnik
Apr 28: Dubrovnik
Apr 29: Dubrovnik
Apr 30: Montenegro
May 1: Korcula
May 2: Korcula
May 3: Hvar
May 4: Hvar
May 5: Hvar
May 6: either Split or Trogir
May 7: Depart

I'm also looking for opinions on Split vs Trogir.

Thank you!

Should be a great trip! The only minor tweak I'd consider would be to shift one day from Hvar to Split/Trogir, but it really depends on what you want to see and experience.

Re: Split vs. Trogir. Many people don't particularly enjoy Split. I loved it! I found it energetic and dynamic, a "real" city that isn't overly dependent upon tourists, and a fascinating place for seeing how people have made this place their home for nearly 2 millennia, adapting existing structures to meet their needs.

In contrast, Trogir is a very small town with some very well preserved Renaissance (and other) structures and some of the most amazing stone carvings one can ever hope to see. Definitely worth seeing!

Whether you stay in Split or Trogir (or both, as I did), you might consider making time to visit both.

Enjoy!

How are you doing your Montenegro trip (organized tour, rental car?). I just ask because some plan on doing it with public transport, but the bus schedule does not allow for it.
Did you make sure you can get from Korcula to Hvar on the day you've chosen? So many people have difficulty with the ferry schedule.
I agree with kja's assessment of the Split/Trogir question. I have a fondness for Trogir because I had an absolutely magical stay there on my first trip to Croatia, but it is tiny. Whatever you do, do not miss the palace in Split--really an amazing sight.
Overall, I think you have the perfect first trip planned. Since it will not really be beach weather, you may want to hire a car to tour around Hvar.

So we are going to do an organized tour of Montenegro. We looked into the ferries and it looks like we will be able to get to those islands on those days. We were thinking since the ferry from Split doesn't leave until 16:00, we could leave Dubrovnik early that morning and wander around Split for a few hours.

I thought you were going from Dubrovnik to Korcula?

Although many people only spend a few hours in Split, that time frame is very short for trying to see even a few of its highlights, let alone get to/from and visit Trogir.

But maybe I've misunderstood your plans....

So we really wanted to take the ferry from Dubrovnik to Korcula, but it looks like that time of year it isn't running and we have to go to Split to then take the ferry to Korcula.

There's a bus from Dubrovnik to Korcula town; it goes on the ferry from Orebic. And a catamaran goes from Korcula town to Hvar and on to Split. Both of these run through the off-season, I believe. But it's always a good idea to double-check the schedules when traveling in Croatia, particularly in the off-season.

Oh that was confusing me too--no need to go all the way to Split to backtrack to Korcula, that wastes countless hours! Take the bus from Dubrovnik--it is comfortable and scenic. It takes about 4 hours and leaves daily about 3pm.
Unless anyone knows of another company, it looks like you will have the 6am Krilo catamaran from Korcula to Hvar:

I do not see anything on jadrolinija ferry for Korcula to Hvar on May 3. (except an even earlier departure out of Vela Luka). hope that helps

Thank you thank you thank you everyone!! I really appreciate all of your help. This really helps us.

Hi mmodrich....we will be staying in Trogir rather than Split. We always prefer a smaller town if possible and then we will just do a day trip to Split to visit the big sites. We also will be driving which will make it easier in Trogir to find parking with our accommodation.

I would go first day to Monte negro because will be long way to go to Korcula from Monte negro. Stay in Split and visit Trogir if you will have time. Trogir is near by Airport.
