We will have a rental car and would like to go to Montenegro or another day trip while in Dub. Also, if anyone needs any specific information, we will be glad to try and get it for you, just let us know.

Please help us tune-up this trip. Thanks

Hello Reecee!
My hubby and I will also be staying at Hotel Livadic for 2 nights and Slovin-Unique for 2 nights, in September. What dates are you going to Croatia?

My wife and I (another old couple) did just about the same trip last year and it was great. We found that, FOR US, one day in Zagreb was enough and the same for Ljubljana. Ljubljana is very nice but the old town is small. The drive from Lake Bled to Trieste thru the Julian Alps is spectacular. I hope you get a clear day. Piran is worth a night. You will really like the rest of your stops, with Rovinj and Dubrovnik being our favorites.

Can’t help with the Slovenia itinerary, but your Croatia one looks good. You really don’t need a car in Dubrovnik, so I suggest, if you decide to go to Montenegro, do that the first day you are in Dubrovnik, then drop off the car for the last days.

When are you going? This will be a wonderful trip, you’ll love it. We did the Croatia part of your trip (almost exactly same stops and number of days, too) last year and that was one of our best vacations.

I think a full day in Zagreb with 2 nights makes sense especially if you arrive there after a long fliight. Although Ljubljana is an easy drive away. I liked Ljubljana a lot. Even though the old town is small, I think it's worth at least a full day. I was there on Friday and Saturday nights--lot's of activity, very enjoyable.

I stayed at the Hotel Emonec, too. It's quite basic, but it's in the perfect location. You're about 50 feet from all the activity. Make sure you request a parking space and when they say arrive by 5 PM, they mean it. Even though I had guaranteed the room with a credit card, they expected me by 5 PM. It's a bit tricky to find driving solo. It's just off a pedestrian street that's also used by taxis and buses. So you drive about a half block down it and through an arched driveway--essentially through a building.

I can't address Bled since I didn't go there. There is a nice little medieval town just outside Ljubljana: Skofja Loka. I only spent a night in Rovinj. Although it's well worth seeing, 4 days seems like too long. I flew from Pula to Dubrovnik so I can't comment on the other places.

I did a day trip to Montenegro, so I had to rent a car again for just one day--expensive. You could do like xyz suggests and do the first day in Dubrovnik. There are also organized day tours that others here liked.

For some ideas, here are my photos from that trip. There's one of the Emonec under "lodging."
