Croatia Itinerary
 

I'm starting to book apartments as we must travel in August. It's our first trip to Croatia ~ does anyone have any comment on the itinerary below? Is it too long (or not long enough) in any one place? I'm interested in seeing a bit of the "inland" Croatia (Zagreb and Varazdin), but wonder if 3 days inland is too much.

Day 1: Arrive Dubrovnik at 1 p.m.
Day 2: Dubrovnik
Day 3: Kayaking or daytrip to Lopud/Lokrum
Day 4: morning in Dubrovnik; bus to Korcula
Day 5: Korcula
Day 6: Bus to Vela Luka; ferry to Split
Day 7: Split
Day 8: daytrip to Trogir
Day 9: Kastela/Split
Day 10: bus to Plitvice
Day 11: Plitvice; late afternoon bus to Zagreb
Day 12: Zagreb
Day 13: daytrip to Varazdin
Day 14: Zagreb

We fly home the next morning.

It looks good, you’ll enjoy, really, maybe you should take trip to Istra, Pula from Plitvice or stay longer on the coast because Zagreb is empty and hot during the summer time, I think you should stay only a day in Zg. anyway, have a great holiday.

I would like to minimize the number of "moves" that we make, so I think we'll have to leave Istria for another trip.

Would you recommend extending either Dubrovnik or Korcula by one night? We could then add an extra daytrip to nearby islands, etc.

Do you have the apartment rentals set? I am going in May and have a couple of recommendations if you like. Though I haven't actually experienced them yet!

Your welcome, Dubrovnik or Korcula, hm both are beautiful but I prefer Dubrovnik and you can take a day trip to Cavtat, 15km from Dubrovnik.

Dear Canadienne, Croatia gets very hot in August, so I would try to cut down on the travelling time and really relish the coastal areas.

Zagreb will be definitely on the empty side - everyone clears off for the coast. I suspect Varazdin will be the same. Really, the best time to visit these 2 cities is either winter or springtime, when they are buzzing.
If I were you, following your trip to Plitvice, I would continue towards Istria. It is coastal, but quite different from Dalmatia - hilly and green, lots of vegetation.
Istria in itself is worth a separate holiday, so I would try to see some of it.
Northern Croatian islands seem somewhat neglected on these boards, but I can guarantee you will not be disappointed if you chose to visit Rab Cres, or Brijuni archipelago.

We will not have a car. We were planning to get to Plitvice on the bus from Split and then get back on that bus to head north to Zagreb. I can't seem to find detail on how we can head west from Plitvice. Do you have any tips? Do we need to go to Zagreb, then head back on a different bus or train route?
