Croatia Itinerary

I've been trying to fine tune our mid-October trip to Croatia for 10 days hoping to fit in all we'd like to do in a logical sequence.

October 18th arrive Dubrovnik
October 19th to 21st Dubrovnik
October 21st to 23rd Split
October 24th and 25th Hvar or Korcula Island
October 26rd and 27th Plitvice National Park
October 28th leave from Split

Is this a reasonable itinerary? I realize the weather could be rainy and a bit chilly but regardless would still want to go to all these places.

Many of us find it helpful if you lay out your itinerary by nights because, for example, you don’t have a full day in both Dubrovnik AND Split on Oct. 21.

Your sequence does NOT make sense to me. Hvar and Korcula are both BETWEEN Dubrovnik and Split. You really would do well to consult a map and a good guidebook or two.

Split is a good launching point for the Plitvice Lakes National Park, and 2 nights in / near the park would give you some latitude if the weather isn’t favorable. Or, if you make reservations that can be cancelled with 24+ hour notice, you could wait to decide which night to spend in the area near the lakes.

Hope that helps!

Thank you kja, I realize Hvar and Korcula are between Dubrovnik and Split but my understanding is they are easier to visit coming from Split rather than from Dubrovnik at that time of year (frequency of ferries?) Maybe I'm not reading the schedules right?

My understanding is that the BUS from Dubrovnik to Korcula runs daily, even in October, and the last I read, there are daily ferries from Dubrovnik to Hvar, from which there are daily ferries to Split. I could be wrong, and apologize if I am.

What makes it even more confusing is our friends are flying into Split and will be renting a car then driving to meet us in Dubrovnik. That means instead of island hoping from Dubrovnik to Split... we will have a car to drive back to Split. That's why it might be better to take a ferry to Hvar or Korcula from Split even though we will be back tracking. Yes, it even sounds confusing.

Bless your hearts!

But in that case, you and your friends might want to give serious consideration to using the bus between Split and Dubrovnik. IME, the bus is comfortable and convenient, and by taking the bus, no driver has to forego seeing some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. JMO.
