Croatia in November

I may be gong to Dubrovnik in November for a conference. Can anyone tell me what will be open and what we could do while there? Any islands we could travel to? Are ferries running? Where else could we go for a day trip from Dubrovnik?

Also may then fly to Zagreb. We figure that since that's the capitol, there will be no problem coming up without things to do.

Please advise. (Weather too?)

Most of our outdoor restaurants will be closed. The city wall and historical sights will be open, with limited hours from 10am until 3pm, daily. The ferry to Lokrum, our closest island will probably not be running. You may be able to visit one of two of the Elefiti islands, but it's all weather depending. Weather will be some warm fall days, but we also do receive much rain. October is our busiest month for cruise ships and the crowds will be gone in November. Some shops are open all year and many do close down for winter hibernation on 31 October.
If you have the opportunity to visit, please do so it is a wonderful area and you may decide to come back to see more. You can also do a day trip down to Montenegro, up to Mostar and the Peljesac peninsula where we grow the Mali Plavac (small blue) grapes for our Dingac wine. There will still be some private tours running or you can also drive most of it with rental car.
At which hotel is your conference being held?

I will be staying in the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel.

Are flights from Zagreb reasonably priced?

Dubrovnik Palace hotel is located on the Lapad area and you will be able to use our local bus service into the old town where our historical and cultural sights are located. There is much to do here, even if some of the outdoor venues are closed down. Rupe Museum should not be missed and a ride to the top of the mountain on the cable car and a walk on the city wall, weather depending. There is more than enough to do in Dubrovnik, especially with the cruise crowd gone.
