CROATIA: ferry from Istria to Venice?

We will be in Rovinj for 3 nights and are wondering about taking a day trip from Riovinj to Venice.

Is it practical to do it as a day trip?
How long is the Ferry ride?
Do you remember the approximate cost?
Is there a web site that would give me the times??
and /or cost?
Was it "worth it" considering the time and cost?
Thanks for your help and opinions.

Nannibray,

We actually started our trip in Venice and took a bus to Porec. The ride was not too long (about 3 hours) and economical. My DH did most of the research on the option of the ferry, but I remember it being a bit more $$$ and not running every day. Hopefully others can clarify.

But, if it is reasonable in price and quick to get to, could be a neat side trip.

You could also consider day trips to small towns in Istria We used Rovinj as our base for 3 nights and we visited Motovun, Grozjnan, Porec, and Piran (Slovenia). Just wonderful!

Enjoy your trip,
Betsy

Piran - that brings back memories. Such a beautiful town! We were there when it was still Yugoslavia. We went to a central office where our hotel was assigned. All of the restaurants had the same menu -- mixed grill and chips. That made ordering easy. The mixed grill was excellent and unbelievably cheap. Entering Yugoslavia we had to take a good guess at how much we would spend before exchanging our dollars for local currency since if not spent, it could not be changed back. I thought the statue of the violinist Tartini rather than the usual General holding a sword in the town square was a touch of class.

Thanks for the posts. Anyone know how long the ferry ride is each way? An aproximate fare?

The services from Istria to Venezia aren't really ferry services: they are summer services and cater mainly for day trippers, people on holiday in Istria who make day trips to Venezia.
www.venezialines.com
www.commodore-travel.hr/Eship.htm
The latter have a trip from Rovinj on Sundays, giving six hours ashore for 520 kuna (70 euros).
Atlas also has a vessel making day trips from Istria to Venezia.
Nobody will have schedules or fares for next year, so things could change.

Thanks Geoffhamer - I got my answer. Looks like the trip is about 4 hours each way and will cost about $95.

Think we will scrap the idea and just enjoy Istria!!
