Can anyone recommend a few places in Dubrovnik that are very central to bars & the nightlife. What area should i target or any hostels, private accommodation in particular.

Hi brenhur: I´m going to Dubrovnik in may and I interesting in the same information. I find this Hostels but I don´t know nothing about a private accommodation. Some people told me the people rent his own houses but I don´t know the priceses. I hope somebody help us. :-)

Does anyone know where all the nightlife is. Is it in the old town??

You can find a list of all private accomodations at www.dubrovnik-online.com. As far as night life in the Old Town it is not what you are expecting, which is bars and night clubs. Although there are few bars, most of the activity centers around being in cafes and restourants. Check out the Irish Pub which is located in one of thje side streets. This is the most popular bar in the old town, and it is crowded all the time.

Do a google search for "sobe Croatia". Sobe are the private parties that rent out rooms. Many of them come with private bath and they can run from $20 and up USD.

We stayed in magical Apartment within the city walls. I highly recommend staying within the city walls.

There are a few good bars but our favorites were Buza, East/West Beach Bar and The Jazz Bar.

Buza (pronounced Bucha) hangs like a barnacle on the outside of the city wall towards the ocean. There is a sign along the inside of the wall along the walk way that just says "Cold Drinks". Walk down the stair and you will most likely hear Dean Martin music. It is a magical place to have drinks on a full moon night!

The Jazz Bar is very small and gets crowded early! Get there before the crowd to get a seat. We sat right next to the band.

East/West is a very hip beach bar located just outside the city walls. Very cool place!

I stayed south of the Old Town - along the water's edge (at the Excelsior) - the view of the Old Town every morning is beyond words - I'm sure there are apartments available south of the Old Town with views. My hotel was an easy 5 miniue walk to Stadun. Now with current exchange (and popularity of Croatia) I wouldn't recommend the Excelsior (or the Argentinia) - though having breakfast on my private terrace was fabulous. I'm sure staying with in the Old City walls would be memorable.

I'll be staying in Dubrovnik at the end of September and have booked a room at the Villa Ragusa within the city walls in Old Town.

I can't comment on the accommadations since I've yet to stay there, but the owner replied to my inquiry very quickly.

Yes, brenhur, the old town is within the city walls. We were up about 3 flights of stairs from the stradun. The stradun is the main pedestrian walk way that runs through the town.

I recommend getting up early and walking the wall before the tour ships unload all the tourists.

I also highly recommend going through the War Photos Museum. Bring tissue! I cried the entire time I was in it.
