Croatia and Turkey
I am trying to plan a trip to Croatia (from Dubrovnik to Split) and then to Turkey (Istanbul) for approximatley 3 weeks in September. Would like to know if anyone has done a similar trip and suggestions for getting to/from the countries. I've researched Croatia a bit more so could use help with turkey itinerary.
thanks so much. Heather |
Suggest a wonderful Guide ,Lale Kosagan, www.tourguidesinturkey.com for Istanbul. She is extremely charming and knowledgable. She provided our group of 6 with a tailor made tour allowing us to see Istanbul efficiently.
We flew to Istanbul.A plane ride to Cappadocia area is well worth the effort. An overnight allows you to get a taste of this spectacular part of the world by staying in a cave hotel, enjoying the fairy chimneys, etc. |
My husband and I went to Istanbul and Cappodacia about a year and a half ago...dont miss the Turkish baths...it is an experience you will relish..my husband aws leary but i talked him into it and he LOVED it.
In Cappodacia we stayed at the Museum Hotel...go to the sight online ..it is unique and the people , food and guides could not have been better...if your budget allows take a balloon ride ...spectacular. |
i forgot to mention that we ,with another are going to Craotia in Sept for 10 days, Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik...lets exchange ideas.

We have decided to go to Turkey and Rhodes. Croatia was very expensive and limited with flights. Next year.
Good luck and have a great time. |
It surprises me when people say Croatia is expensive. I definitely do not find it so compared to many other countries (except in Dubrovnik, of course). Perhaps I am hanging out in different areas! :) So far my husband and I have yet to pay more than 50 euros for accommodations anywhere in the country. And believe me - I am really picky. I spend hundreds of hours searching for perfect spots. We never stay at resorts (hate them) and imagine those can be expensive. :)
However, food can be pricey - especially seafood. But September affords all kinds of options, especially in Istria (truffles in particular). Spit roasts on roadsides are great and really cheap (probably about $8 USD). Roadside stands selling local cheeses, wines, olive oils, etc. are great for lunches if you grab some fresh bread from a bakery. If you fly in to Zagreb, get a rental car and work your way south, you can fly from Dubrovnik back to Zagreb for really cheap (last time we did it was only 25 euros each). |
Oh, I know once there it wouldn't be that expensive, but getting there in september is very expensive right now...about $1700 plus from California. Turkey was only $1200.
Have a great time. I think you can even find cheaper places to stay in small towns. My friend last year found great apartments to rent for $20! |
Oh, sorry! I misunderstood. Flights can be expensive, that is for sure. :(
