winesaavy7, budget wise, best thing to do is to take a ferry from Ancona to Split or Zadar.

This month on PBS 8/14, Rudy Maxa will visit the Dalmation Coast of Croatia.

Thanks, machin, I looked at my GBH Guide and saw it listed. The visions of Scotland maybe worth viewing.
This Sunday he goes to Rome. |

How many of there are you -two? Just realized your post was from April so you probably have all your plans nailed down but will mention anyway.... Have you thought of sailing through the islands? My husband and I have rented a sailboat for a week - Split to Dubrovnik with a Skipper as we are rusty at sailing and there is an empty cabin. Originally I thought of moving around by ferry but we thought this would be fun. This is an open offer to two others if this seems of interest. Obviously we have to see if there is a 'fit' as we have to all get along but I think it would be fun. I took a Gulet in Turkey and loved it but this allows us to choose the ports of calls and get some sailing in. We pick up boat in Split on Oct 8th and definately want to stop in Hvar and Korcula then we have a flight from Dubrovnik to London on the 14th. We thought one way would enable us to see a lot without having to travel back to Split. Just an idea - or consider doing it on your own! Good luck BTW We are hoping there is a ferry from Venice to Split via Enermar - they said they will be doing their schedule up soon, so we have to keep checking back. |
Hi Falltripper, Yes, our trip is pretty much all organized now but your sail through the islands sounds great --wouldn't work for us though. There's three of us and we're doing the opposite to you -- we arrive in Dubrovnik on October 9th and depart out of Split for Rome on the 16th. Sounds wonderful and I'm sure you'll have a great time. Please let us know how it went when you return.

Can any of you make suggestions for an itinerary for 3 (mother and two kids who love history) which would include Rome and Dubrovnik and anything good between, for June 2006 for about 10-12 days? We can fly into one city and out of the other, no problem. Just need ideas for nearby stops, transportation between, etc. My son especially is interested in Roman history and anything related. Thanks.

I was planning a trip to Croatia for October as well and just checked the Jadrolinija site for ferry schedules. Maybe I'm clicking on the wrong thing too because I only see two ferries per week between Hvar and Split at that time.
Would like to know if there are more options because it's getting a bit hard to plan a bus trip from Dubrovnik to Split and then ferry to Hvar (or in the other direction) without overnighting in Split. |
