Croatia Accomodations

Any suggestions on where to stay for a one month visit. We need a kitchen and could move twice, but are mainly looking for a town to do day trips. Sightseeing, ruins, coastal. Has anyone stayed in one location for an entire month and where? PLEASE

I can't really give you suggestions on where a good place would be to base yourself for a month, but we stayed in a lovely apartment in Trogir just a few weeks ago that was outfitted with a kitchen and had a lovely view of the coast from the terrace. As a bonus the owners were delightful to chat with and the price was right. The place was called Villa Pape and the website is http://www.villa-pape.com/.

I personally would break it up into two or three places. Croatia is fantastic but the roads can be slowgoing, making it difficult to take daytrips without driving a long time to get from point A to point B. I would definitely spend at least a few nights in Dubrovnik. We drove up the Croatian coast and while the towns were beautiful they just couldn't compare to the beauty of Dubrovnik, in my opinion. From here you could take a tour, by Atlas or private guide, to Montenegro to visit Kotor and its beautiful fjord. The sights blew us away with its beauty.

The Split/Trogir area is also a good base because you could take boatrides to nearby islands like Hvar, and Split has the ruined Diocletian's Palace that is definitely worth a look.

I haven't been to Istria yet, but that region also gets many praises on this board.

I am still in the process of completing my trip report for Croatia, but if you click on my screenname you can find and read my report, which hopefully could give you some helpful information.

Good luck!
Tracy

On our recent trip, we enjoyed Zadar very much. It's centrally located, near to several national parks and is a delightful town.

Here's the URL of my page on this trip:

Personally, I would base in Dubrovnik. It is a beautiful place with many day trip options to island, inland, Bosnia and Hercegovina and Monenegro.

If you would like to see my trip photos you can go to www.windjammer.smugmug.com.

I also have a trip report so if you want that, provide your email address and I will send it to you. I spent two weeks in Croatia 2 years ago.

Cheers!

Martha, I am glad you enjoyed the photos of Croatia! It is a beautiful place.

Nice to hear you like the Oregon coast, too. I live in Oregon and, personally, I think the coastline here is one of the most beautiful in the world!

Hi
what time of the year? Are you travelling
with children? Do you wish to be in a small town or a city of a few hundered thousand? Will you be driving?
All can be a factor .
Larger cities like Split and Rijeka ( on the coast) have better medical facilities (if needed ).
Many towns on the coast can be very crowded in July and August. (Dubrovnik, Hvar, Trogir etc).
You may wish to spend part of you time in the southern part of the cost (around Dubrovnik ) and some time in the north (Pula is lovely and interesting) Also, if in the north, you could visit Slovenian coast and inland.

interesting).
