Croatia

My wife and I are intrigued by going to Croatia. We are especially interested in staying in Dubrovnik and would like any input on places to stay (for health reasons air conditioning is a must). If you have any thoughts we would appreciate them.

Thank You,
Mike

We stayed at the Hotel Bellevue which was a short walk (10-15 minutes) from the old city. I don't recall if there was air conditioning as it wasn't hot enough to use it. I thought it was a good hotel though, conveniently located with a nice view of the sea.

You might also check Hotel Excelsior which is a higher end hotel. I would be surprised if they didn't have air conditioning as it's listed as a 5 star hotel in my guide book. It's also quite close to the old town.

The old town is quite compact, I thought a day at most was enough to see the old town. You can also catch boats from the harbor to go to Cavtat, Lokrum and several other places.

Croatia is beautiful. It is a great place to visit becuase it is relatively inexpensive, and not over run with tourists.
I reccomend checking out Pula. It is a coastal town with many seaside resorts. There is even a roman colloseum there that is the 3rd largest in europe, and is still used today for concerts and operas.
By the way there is great scuba there (and all over croatia). ( 2 boat dives with air and guide for under $20)
You will probably not find too many places with air conditioning. Check out web sites for info. Just do a search for croatia.
Have a great trip.

I was in Croatia last year and went to Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik. I enjoyed Split the most but know that others prefer the other two places. in Dubrovnik I stayed at hotel Argentina which was fine, still suffering some effects of the war I believe but still nice. I think everywhere there has AC because it gets pretty warm. Hvar is mostly full of tour groups so you have to get accomodation through a private residence which was fine but it was a little slow for my taste. have fun.

Mike:
I stayed at Villa Dubrovnik. Great hotel that has air conditioning.

It's a small hotel and near the old town. They have their own private beach too.

www.villa-dubrovnik.hr
