Croatia
We have 6 nights to enjoy Croatia the end of May. We need some advice for island hoping. We are flying into Split and out of Dubrovnik. Havar, Mjet and Korcula look great and then we would like to do our final 2 nights in Dubrovnik and Kotor. Thanks in advance for the help from this Forum!!
|
So how, exactly, do you plan to fit all of that into your 6 nights?
|
HA-- too aggressive?
|
Day 1 - arrive Split (from London) and ferry directly to Hvar.(2 nights)
Day 3 - ferry to Korcula and on to Dubrovnik (1 night) Day 4 - enjoy Dubrovnik and drive to Kotor in the afternoon (2nights) Day 6- return to Dubrovnik Day 7 - fly to Switzerland from Dubrovnik I need to find the 2018 May ferry schedules, but this looks like a rather enjoyable itinerary. |

DO check the ferry schedules to make sure your plan is feasible before committing. Good luck! |
Do you happen to have a good site for the upcoming ferry schedules?? We may need to do some adjusting.
|
Sorry, no.

I reckon the ferry journeys are all part of the enjoyment. I've only done Split to Brac [Supetar] and back, and Split to Hvar [Stari Grad] and back. Both routes were very much part of our holiday, with lovely views all the way, and on our way back from Stari Grad we were treated to a wonderful sunset.
On the other hand, trailing round Trogir trying to avoid the many tour groups that populate the place between 1000-1500 every day ain't much fun [worse when there's a cruise ship alongside in Split]. |
danen5. Is this what you're after...
Ferry Croatia The ferries are more fun than catamarans, slower but at least you can wander round the upper deck. |
Does anyone recommend a 3-4 day (small)l cruise of the islands? We can leave from either Dubrovnik or Split.
|
Perhaps we would be better off skipping Split and Hvar and doing day trips from Dubrovnik- Korcula being the farthest away. As I ponder our plan I am beginning to understand that we have a schedule that my not be enjoyable. How far would it be to Korcula? Also - are 3 nights days a good amount in Kotor? Although I am not a fan of 3 nights in Dubrovnik it may be the best plan as a home base. Any suggestions for lodging in both Dubrovnik and Kotor would be appreciated.
Thank you |
Staying in Dubrovnik for 2 or 3 nights makes a lot of sense, particularly if you want to do any day trips from there.
You can take a bus from Dubrovnik to Korcula (the bus moves onto a ferry for the crossing to the island). I believe it leaves once daily and takes about 3.5 hours. There may be other options -- you'll have to research that. You can then spend a night or two (or more!), depending on your interests, on Korcula. I visited Kotor as a day trip; others spend anythin from a night to a week or more there – your choice! If you skip Split and Hvar this time (and personally, I think that is a good choice), another option in southern Dalmatia that you can reach from Dubrovnik is Mljet. If you don't already have it, I strongly urge you to get, or consult, a copy of the Rough Guide to Croatia. |
It seems a lot as for one trip. Try Dalmatia and Dubrovink. It's beautiful there. I also like Makarska Riviera.

We have decided to stay in Dubrovnik and do a few nights in and in Montenegro a few nights. Does anyone have loding recommendations? We would like to be in the Old Town in Dubrovnik and perhaps on the water in Montenegro? thanks! So happy we have "tamed" this down from our first ideas. It will be so delightful to relax and get to enjoy the area.

I don't think you'll regret trimming your plans! :star:
It has some quirks, but the views from the Villa Adriatica in Dubrovnik are pretty hard to beat: Villa Adriatica - private accommodation, apartments and rooms in Dubrovnik, Croatia |
The Adriatica is booked for our dates. I sure would appreciate other suggestions for lodging in the Old town thanks!

Have you tried booking.com?
|
yes, but I always like Fodors recommendations.
Another couple of questions: Is there a direct ferry to Korcula from Dubrovnik? And, I am looking for lodging recommendations there as well as in Kotor. |
Do you have a good guidebook? I strongly recommend the Rough Guide, which should provide answers to many of your questions.
For your transportation options, please consult rome2rio.com Good luck! |
Does anyone have a recommendation for lodging in Hvar? We will be there for 3 nights, and would like to be spend LESS than $200/ night. There are TONS of airbnb but first hand experiences are always the best.
Thanks. |
