This is getting to be more like TA then an actual useful forum.
I don't know RS personally, but I have been to his store in Everett and read a few lines from some of his guides, found them not to my liking, but then hey, he works hard at what he does and has been quite successful over the years. It's all in the marketing.

The only appropriate words I can currently offer to this mangled, butchered, rambling, incoherent thread is a fabulous Julian Fellowes quote from next week's upcoming episode of Downton Abbey Season 6:
From the character named Lady Edith,
"I know you. I know you to be a nasty, jealous, scheming bitch!"
I really don't care what the board contrarians have to say, I think Julian Fellowes is a genius talent.

Oh my gawd!
I spit three times on the ground and retire to fan myself with my dogeared paperback copy of Pride and Prejudice.
And fwiw, I vote for Hugonaut because I assume Cowboy is referring not to French Calvinists but to devotees of Victor Hugo.

"I think Julian Fellowes is a genius talent." I was laughing too.
On a more serious note.
As someone who went to school with roughly 20% Muslims, 10% Jews, 40% various Christians and just 30% of us non-religous types I struggle to see why the arrival of migrants should trigger crime.
I don't have a historical perspective of the crime wave that hits USA everytime yet more people end up there. Is there a link between migration and crime? I doubt it, I suspect more migrants are so traumatised and focused on getting their family fed that such solutions only present themselves in the same as they would to the indiginous population.

how on earth did THIS thread get to be about the blessed Rick?
Bilbo - IMO the refugees/migrants are more likely to be the victims of crime than its perpetrators. those who have survived near-drowning and goodness knows what other horrors were perpetrated on them on their way to Europe are ripe for exploitation when they get here.

Considering the flood of migrants now washing up on European shores with the inevitable crime to follow, I would think 'La Légende des siècles' would be more appropriate for this thread. Notably how Hugo compares the Prophet Muhammad’s hijri much like his own>>

nice to see you exhibiting your normal charitable attitude to your fellow man, FrankS. have you read the parable of the Good Samaritan recently, perchance?
[bizarrely I had to post FrankS's quote and my comment thereon separately - perhaps it's divine intervention!]

Oh please please please don't open the door to another endless Bible study! The Julian Fellowes thing was upsetting enough.
As the great G.B. Shaw said, "I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it."

It may be interesting to read the history of the Huguenots when whining about the so called refugee crisis.
It is indeed a crisis, but rather for those who need to leave their homes to find refuge.
When the Huguenots had their exodus from France to other countries which promised religious freedom like Prussia, the impact on local society was much larger.
Within a short time, one fifth of Berlin's population had been refugees from another country, who spoke a foreign language and observed a foreign cult.
In today's figures it would be 800,000 refugees on top of the current population of 3.5 million. That was a challenge for the local population - and not being asked to donate unwanted clothes or a modest increase in taxes.
