Crillon Le Brave Comments??

We are considering staying at Crillon Le Brave for part of our trip to Provence - a few days in Aix first, and then want to move to another location to tour Luberon, Isle sur la Sorgue, Vaison la Romaine, and then onto St. Remy, Arles and Les Baux.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has stayed at Crillon about the differences in the buildings, rooms, etc. There is quite a difference in price.

I also don't know if we are making a mistake with this location and would be better situated in Gordes or Bonnieux for the Luberon, and it seems somewhat remote.

We are tempted to add a 3rd location - St. Remy - for that area, as my husband hates driving back and forth each day to sight see and would rather be close to where we are going.

Any info. anyone can provide about Crillon would be helpful.

I would stay in one location, but that is my choice...not to move! You will be doing a lot of driving wherever you stay.
I rented a house near Crillon le Brave a year ago..the Vaucluse area is a bit distant.
Aix is miserable for driving at anytime..parking is almost impossible.
I have spent a great deal of time in all parts of Provence, including the Riviera.....
Check out your Michelin maps and where you are wanting to go..try to pick a central location for that.
Nimes is a wonderful shopping place..very much like a smaller Aix.

Enjoy........

a bientot,

I was thinking of staying in the Hostellerie CLB but didn't so can't comment on rooms, but I have been in that area and would not recommend it as a location for touring the Luberon and Arles, if I understand what you plan to do. It's too far north. It would be a good location if you wanted to concentrate on the Gigondas wine region, Dentelles, Oragne, Mt. Ventoux and upper Vaucluse area (fine for Vaison la Romaine) with maybe one day to Isle sur la Sorgue or something. But as a center for mainly touring the Luberon and Arles/St. Remy area it doesn't seem the best choice. It depends how much time you want to spend driving around each day, as well as where you plan to eat dinner.

I don't like driving very far late at night in the dark in a strange area to get back to a hotel after dinner, especially a rural area with small rounds and mountains. I think it probably is only about 25 miles (40 km or so) from the Luberon, but there isn't a major super highway connecting them, so that will take a lot longer to drive than you may think.

I don't like moving hotels that much myself, but if you do decide to move to St. Remy for part of your stay, I think it would be fine to stay in Crillon le Brave from Vaison la Romaine, etc.

That particular house was rented through www.provencewest.com. There are many, many vacation rental sites....try www.vrbo.com...these are rentals from owners..all over the world..just click on France and then to the Provence area...also www.gite.com will give you many....I have many, many more if needed.

We enjoyed our brief stay at Crillon le Brave but wouldn't go out of our way to return. The prices are on the high side, but the rooms are very prettily decorated. The food in the restaurant didn't measure up to what we had elsewhere in Provence. I would strongly urge you to look in the area around St.-Rémy for touring that region. If you want to stay in the Luberon itself, check out La Ferme de la Huppe, which is on a road down the hill from Gordes. The inn is charming and the food is wonderful--and very fairly priced, too.
