road trip from The Hague

We are staying in the Hague for a couple of weeks and looking for road trip suggestions. We are driving to Brugge and spending the night. Any suggestions for adding a day or two from there to create a loop back to the Hague? Dipping into Germany would be nice - maybe Cologne?
Thanks!

For Cologne you will need an environment sticker for the car. Assuming it is a rental you can't get one. Why not head down to the Ardennes and Eiffel, with maybe the Mosel? Or the Ardennes then back up to Den Haag via Maastricht, which is probably a more doable trip given your timeframe.

I second the Ardennes - Maastricht plan. It could maybe be a trip along the Meuse and the Ourthe in two days, perhaps staying the night in Durbuy. On the other hand, a one day drive back up by way of Zeeland could be very relaxed, stopping for lunch in Domburg or Burgh Haamstede. It's also a chance to see the amazing Dutch Deltaworks, and if time permits you could visit Tiengemeten, a "wild" Island in the Haringvliet, close to Rotterdam.

It's not "cities", though, I realize that

The one thing I would have against crossing Belgium is that it takes a long time before the beautiful part starts and then it's over quite soon. Only past Charleroi I think and then it's over when you reach Maastricht.

I second Menachem's suggestion for Zeeland. Easy to do, and lovely part of the Netherlands. Have a mussel lunch, in Yerseke, center of the mussel industry.

Oh, and you don't want a long drive through Belgium today, it is HOT. You could also stop in Knokke on the Belgian coast for a lunch by the sea.
