Crete dance nights
 

We will be in Chania this April. Can anyone recommend someplace we can go for an authentic Crete dance night? Also, any other recommendations for restaurants or activities in Chania would be most appreciated.

I found the names of 2 places in Chania that offer Greek Music.

"Ramblers" -- Every Saturday Night, 8:30-12:30

"Stathmos" -- no details.

This information is 2 years old. It's the best I could find using search words "Greek Night Chania". Bars come and go. They may no longer be there or they may have changed their 'vibe'. Ask at your hotel. They'll have more current information.

These Greek Nights... are everything but an original dance experience among locals.....
They are made for tourists and even though i find them quite entertaining i wouldn't call them authentic....
There are Cretan tavernas where locals dance to local Cretan ( folk) music but if you are not Cretan ( like me) you will get bored after 15 minutes,
Most hotels have a weekly Greek night where they play the so called " popular " Greek music, along with Greek and Cretan folk music and dances, but i am not sure
they will have the occupancy in April to offer a Greek night....
The reception of your hotel will know for sure what is taking place in the city and where :)

What clausar wrote has always been my impression. I've enjoyed Greek music and dancing when it is performed for Greeks rather than for tourists. A wedding party, when the venue is open to other guests, can be great fun to watch, with bride and groom, friends, relatives, and even grandparents joining in for traditional Greek dancing. Local festivals will also have Greek dancing, but you have to be there when they take place.

Here is an example of a local dance festival, which was held on Antiparos last May. Perhaps there will be something like that in April at Chania. (they were actually dancing to traditional Greek music)
