Crete/Athens/Santorini itinerary
Here is what we have for our Greece trip so far. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Such as, what have me missed, what are some good specific sights to see, should we have less time in Athens? Or is there anything near Athens that we might have time to see such as Delphi?
Day 1: Arrive in Athens in the morning. Sightsee during the day and take the overnight ferry to Chania.
Day 2: Sight see in downtown Chania
Day 3: Souda/ Balos Beach/ Gramvousa Castle
Day 4: Samaria Gorge/ Agios Pavolos Beach
Day 5: Gortys/ Phaestos/ Agios Varvara
Day 6: Knossos
Day 7: Downtown Heraklion
Day 8: Dihktean Cave/ Gournia/ Return to Heraklion
Day 9: Ferry to Santorini in the morning, see Santorini
Day 10: Sight see in Santorini, take night time ferry back to Athens
Day 11: Sight seeing in Athens
Day 12: Athens sight seeing/ Temple of Posiedon at Sounion
Day 13: Sight seeing in Athens
Day 14: Return to USA in the a.m.

In western Crete, both Falasarna and Elafonissi beaches are totally different from each other, both beautiful. They can be combined in a day trip easily, drive down the coast one way, and return to Chania through the mountains.
Outside of Chania, visit the peninsula to the west of Souda Bay, village of Vamos.
Chania, Agia Triada monastery, to the north of downtown on a peninsula.
Souda Bay has military ports/installations, Greek and US.

You don't say when you are flying nor from where. But if you are crossing the Atlantic, you will be too tired to see much on the day you arrive. Also, if you are going in the summer months it can be extremely hot. Stop at Knossos, but don't bother to spend any time in Heraklion. Try to spend more time on Santorini - it looks like you are there for only one night. 2-3 nights would be my recommendation so you can relax and drink in the beautiful surroundings. You could give up one day in Heraklion and one day in Athens. You are spending a lot of time moving around. Also consider saving the day trip to Sounion for another visit and use the day in Athens.
