To jennygreen - you would be better off starting a new thread with the subject something like "Crete Jan/Feb where to stay and eat". Crete is a big island, you should specify where you are flying into and out of, which town or city you are staying in, so people are better able to help. The more info you provide the better the suggestions should be.

Dimitry, the ferries that go from Naxos to Mykonos in the afternoon are nearing the end of their long daily routes and by then are often running 1-2 hours late. Go to Mykonos at least one day before your flight home, two days would be better. Occasionally in September weather or strikes stop the ferries for a day or two.

Just curious — I know there are no direct flights from Mykonos to the USA, so which European city will you be flying through? Back through Vienna?

Oops! That should have read "getting to anywhere the day of a major flight." Heimdall has, of course, nailed the point and I apologize for my misstatement.

Wise advice, kja! Greek ferries are reliable, but weather isn't. Here is what happened last September when the "medicaine" stopped all ferries for two days:

Dimitry, I see some really good fares with British Airways from Mykonos to London Heathrow in May, so hopefully you have bagged one of those. If you are flying from Mykonos to Gatwick or any other London airport, and departing to the US from Heathrow, make sure you have enough time to transfer between airports.
