Crete Accomodations
Hi,
I will be going to Crete on September 6 and will be leaving on the 10th. Since, I have never been to Crete but I have been to other islands. I would like mainly to see the palace and relax; preferably in a small, modern, clean place with a view of the water. I have been picturing a pension or small run hotel where there are balconies that I can sit and look out into the blue water.
Ideally, not very expensive ($100 or less per night), that is accessible but not with couples or families.
I am a single woman in my 20s who doesn't want to do the hostel route this time around nor do I want to torture myself with coupleland.
Suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Honestly besides seeing the site of Knossos the only thing i want to do is chill out and see the open blue water. so, where ever i can see it in peace is fine with me. i read a couple of guide books and nothing jumps out. i have heard good things about hania and rethymno but i open to all options. A quaint town/village is preferred be the middle of a busy port.

It sounds like you want a north coast village. More amenities and closer to Heraklion. What you want is available close to Heraklion and almost anywhere on Crete. I stayed near Chania and loved it. Agia Galini as mentioned is a very small town approx. a 3hour drive from Heraklion, very beautiful.
Most places on Crete are not expensive.

Thanks so much for the assistance. After spending some more time this weekend reading about the islands. I actually changed my mind about Crete. I think I would need a lot more time to do it justice so, I think Cyclades would be better for this trip. I have already been there and I think for my the mental picure I have of lounging for my vacation it would be ideal.
I could use some assistance in picking an island. I am going to post a separate question for that.
