What is dcc? How can I be sure that I'm not being cahrged the currency conversion rate when I buy my Eurail pass from the US travel agent (or is that impossible)? There will be 4 of us traveling, and it will add up!

I did tell them I was in the UK. That is why I was charged in Euros not dollars.

DCC is Dynamic Currency Conversion, another name for Scam (just like "credit default swaps"). So go ahead, just put in UK, you don't have to put in an address or anything ...

Aside from currency, changing your supposed nationality can also result in savings when you reserve a car online -- try it putting in US or UK or France... and see how the rates change!!

If the merchant treated you as if you were in the UK, perhaps they did a pounds-to-euros dynamic currency conversion markup before sending the transaction to your American credit card issuer. Is this a possibility?
