credit cards

We are going to Prague next week, and want to know if the usual credit cards like Visa and Diners club are accepted there?! and what about cash money machines??thanks for any answer.

ATMs were available and an easy way to obtain cash. Visa was fine. You may want to check and see if the card you are taking charges a "transaction fee" on foreign charges. Recently friends were hit with a 3% charge on every purchase, which does add up. That visa was through Chase. I believe the Northwest frequent flyer visa also charges the fee.
Prague is a marvelous city, you will really enjoy it.

I had no trouble using a VISA for purchases, more expensive restaurants, opera tickets, etc. I don't think Diners Club is a usual credit card, so I wouldn't count on that, but I don't really know, but I've seen many places that don't take that card in many countries. I personally did not find ATM machines that common in Prague; there are some, but not nearly as many as in Western Europe, at least where I was staying and visiting (which was central Prague). I took travelers' checks and apparently they like these in Prague as the exchange places (Thomas COoks and Am Express) gave rates very similar to bank rates, with no commission. Once I found that out, I mainly used my TCs as I almost lost my card in one Prague ATM and didn't want to risk that again (the machine operated differently than any I'd seen).

Just got back from Prague the 14th....used my Mastercard with no problems....my friend used her Visa with ease!! Exchanged some American money for Czech crowns but ran out....didn't matter....they ALL took American money....no problem!! If you're interested in buying crystal and garnets, there is a really reputable store in Old Town, near the Astronomical clock...it's called Rott...genuine items....very classy store....got some REALLY good deals! Enjoy Prague...it's as beautiful city.

I was in Prague in Sept 99 and had no problems finding ATM's. I used both my ATM card and VISA. I came back with my Trevelers Checks intact.
Beautiful city, enjoy it.
Regards
