Crazy to visit Sicily in December?

My husband and I are planning a week in Europe in early December, and are considering Sicily as a destination.

We were in Italy last year in early January and particularly loved the Amalfi coast. (This leg was based in Sorrento with a day trip to Capri.) Since we love food, history and coasts, we thought that Sicily would make an ideal destination.

From my reading I know that earlier in the year would be better weather, but our options are August or early December, and we're scared of the heat and crowds in August.

What do you think -- are we crazy to visit Sicily at this time of year? Is there somewhere else that would fit our bill better in either August or December?

Thank you!

December is perfect. Mild during daytime, not too cold at night. I'd consider early december the best time of the year. :-)

But you might want to look for a hotel with heating, esp. during the night.

Thank you so much! I didn't even think about heating as a consideration, but I will definitely ask now.

Perfect time of year. I think that winter used to be the high season in Taormina.
