CPAP Battery Pack for Airplane?
 

We have traveled with the hubby's CPAP internationally, successfully, but we need to find a way for him to use his portable unit on the plane.

Anyone know of a battery pack that could work on the plane?

What brand and model?

It's a Sullivan brand, "escape" model.

It's a fairly new, smallish unit.

On the last trip from the airplane catalogue/on board "sore" (Delta I believe) we bought what is theoretically a unit to enable connecting an appliance to the airplane seat's AV input but it didn't work -- maybe the cpap requires too much power, so we are looking into the battery options.

In general CPAPs draw too much power for a portable battery to handle (not a lot of current, but long running times.) Look at "inverters" that will plug into the airline's laptop power outlet (and not all or even most airlines have these in coach, but generally available in business). Inverters convert the DC power provided by the airplane to AC (even though the CPAP may un-convert it later) so you can use the standard plug.

Also confirm with the airline that they'll allow the CPAP to be used in flight. Some will only allow it with a doctor's certification; others just won't.

There are several available that will work for you, and you can bring them on the plane. One is made by Resporonics and another by Puritan Bennett. I do know that they roughly cost around $200 if that means anything to you.

I commend your husband for wanting to wear his CPAP on the plane, I have a hard enough time getting patients to wear theirs at home!

Many thanks latenighter; the hubby's a cardiologist who has dx'd many patients with sleep apnea and struggles to get them to get treatment too! We are west coast so it's too long of an all nighter. He would rather look weird, or cover his mask with a blanket, than go without. And he'd gladly pay $200 for something that would help.
