COVID Testing in Glasgow--HELP!
 

We will be flying from Glasgow to San Francisco mid-June. We are aware that we will need a COVID test done one day prior to departure. Also, only certain tests are presently approved by the CDC. I am at a loss to figure out where we go to get the proper test processed as the information on the web is confusing me. Please advise if you have recently flown back to US and the what procedure you followed. Thanks you!

We just booked an antigen Covid test for late May from Boots Pharmacy (a chain, I believe) in Edinburgh. I asked our hotel which pharmacy to use, and they recommended two close to our hotel. You'll need an in-store rapid antigen test - 30 pounds if you choose Boots. At the Boots web site, you will provide them with info about you, upload a scan of your passport, and your credit card info. You will not be charged until you receive the test. You will get an "order ID number". Then you will use a separate site to schedule the test - this separate site did not work properly. We will telephone them tomorrow to schedule a test.

Our flight from Edinburgh to SFO via JFK departs at 10:50am. Personally, I would not plan on getting a test at the airport for a flight that early in the morning. We did the Covid test thing in December from Paris to SFO.

Yes Boots is a pharmacy chain owned by Walgreens. Its a good place to get tested but there are lots of other choices.
Randox had a Glasgow city centre location.
Lloyds Pharmacy has several Glasgow locations.

If you aren’t familiar with the name “Boots”, it’s part of the Walgreens Boots Alliance. Boots is a highly respected pharmacy chain in the United Kingdom.

We called Boots this morning. We need a test on Sat May 28. They are not staffed for do the test on Saturdays. So we booked with Randox - which has the airport and City Center locations. The Randox web site worked fine!!! We are set to go

Does anyone have an idea of how quickly testing appointments fill up? I will also need a "return to US" test in early June. Normally I plan all the details of my trip way ahead of time, but I am - perhaps naively - waiting in the hopes that the US removes the test to re-enter policy. Right now there are plenty of walk through appointments at a Randox testing site in Edinburgh New Town, near my hotel. I'm wondering how long I can wait before paying the 35 pounds to schedule a test. I leave for Scotland on May 22, and I will definitely book an appointment by that time. I'm just wondering if that may be too long to wait.

I have no knowledge re Randox, but my Boots appointment is not charged until the actual test. If we cancel the appointment (as I’m fervently hoping we can) there is no charge. Good luck to all in this position!

Well Stu, those peanuts add up. Boots test is £30.

I was unable to schedule the appointment with Boots because their web was malfunctioning. I tried for 3 days - clearing cache & cookies, etc. Finally called them. They do not perform tests on Saturdays or Sundays.
