covid confusion
 

I'm in the States, and planning/hoping to return to the UK (where I've been many times) in September. I know the CDC has dropped requirements for Covid-19 testing, both going out and coming back in. But if I should become ill while traveling, will any hotel agree to house me through a quarantine? I plan to buy travel insurance that will cover medical expenses due to covid, as well as quarantine expenses (for ten nights) due to covid. Are there any other complications I should be aware of? Thanks, everyone.

CDC has nothing to do with "going out" requirements, only with entering the US. Each country established their own entry requirements. Airlines enforce the requirements of the destination country.

As for getting ill with COVID in a foreign country - yes, there are hotels which will house you - usually at your own expense (which may be reimbursed by travel insurance.)

I'm sure I will be corrected but essentially the UK has no COVID restrictions anymore.

The UK has no covid restrictions at present and hotels don't really care whether you have covid or any other disease. You will be able to stay wherever you want want. I very much doubt anything will change by September.

The only other complications you should be aware of is that this week the rail unions have embarked on a series of strikes which will make it very difficult to travel around the country this week. These are likely to continue throughout the summer but hopefully will be resolved by September. Our airports are currently in chaos with thousands of lights being cancelled. Again, hopefully this will all be over by September.

It is even more essential to have rock solid full comprehensive travel insurance travelling here this year. So do check the t&c s carefully.

Hotel rates, at least in London are currently 2-3 times the norm. In your position. Sept should be ok but I would book cancellable rooms sooner rather than later, just in case

Crellston, ah, bless you for the suggestions. Yes, I do know the UK is suffering train strikes right now, as well as lots of cancelled flights. It's well worth taking into consideration when planning a trip. From what I've researched on insurance, travel insurance will pay for some extra hotel stay/isolation time, but not at the full price. And you are quite right about prices going up. I may go in November. It's something to think about. Travel would be a lot more fun--if it wasn't for the travel!
