hello

am wanting to stay in covent garden - can anyone recommend a good hotel

seen some goodish offers for the kingshall hotel - has anyone stayed there?

any info appreciated

We stay at The Strand when we're in London. Lots of people hate it, thinks it's rundown, seedy, seen better days, etc. We love the location and perhaps see it through different eyes. I don't know anything about the Kingshall Hotel.

Are you sure you doin't mean the Kingsway Hall Hotel ?

The Savoy is almost directly across the street from Covent Garden and they are offering some amazingly low rates these days.

Flyer......do you think the Savoy's low rates are because of declining popularity of that particular hotel, or just a reflection of a drop-off in tourism? I ask because I stayed there 3 years ago and loved the location, but have been concerned about recent poor reviews of the hotel. If the price is "amazingly low", I think I'll chance another stay there. What are your thoughts?

I have no idea why they've lowered their rates. (There were room available for around $275.00 a night this summer.) However, I doubt it had anything do do with the condition of the hotel or the service. The last couple of times I've stayed there the rooms have been lovely and the service perfect. I still have friends who will only stay at The Savoy. The only reason I don't is that I prefer the Sloane Square area. I'm not a fan of the Strand.

I think the Strand, just by covent Garden, is central and suitable. Hotels I know of are these

I believe the Meridien Waldorf is undergoing renovations (some areas closed). After my recent horrible accomodations/poor service at Meridien Picadilly (see under hotel reviews)and knowing that Meridien is going bankrupt, I would steer clear.

I agree with Giovanna. The Strand Palace is as good as any other (and more expensive!) hotel that I've stayed at in London and the location is excellent.
