couple of questions

Well, we leave soon and I can't thank this board enough for all the help with my planning. I just recived confirmation for the Scavi Tour and was wondering if it's necessary to wear a dress or are pants ok? And for Dinner at La Giostra in Florence is a jacket for a guy a good idea? Just one more question, we have a 4 hour layover in Paris, is this enough time to wonder off to see anything? Thanks

Never made it to La Giostra, as we planned, but my husband was planning to wear a jacket there. I'm sure someone else would know for certain if it's required.

As for Paris, with the commute into the city being an average of 40 minutes each way, I wouldn't risk it. I'd stay at the airport.

Have fun on your trip!

My husband and I went to La Giostra in 2001. He was dressed nicely but did not wear a jacket. No problem.

When I went on the Scavi Tour, I saw women in pants. They were nice pants, not jeans.

We just did the Scavi tour three weeks ago. I wore capri's, the weather was very warm, I've heard it's gotten even warmer.

Hi Bird,

With the weather what it is all rules about dress are suspended.

The Scavi is considered a very sacred place. Even if you're not Catholic, you should respect this opportunity and dress appropriately. No one will abuse you for wearing Capri pants or no socks with sandals but I would NEVER do such a thing. Furthermore, it's underground and temperature controlled. If you care about doing the right thing, work your clothing selection around your visit and not around the rest of your day.

Just remember when you leave the Scavi tour you will be going upstairs into St. Peter's so dress accordingly. Comfortable but appropriate clothes and shoes are acceptable. Also, it can be chilly down in the catacombs so layer.
