COUNTY DONEGAL IRELAND
Planning a visit to County Donegal and nearby areas, would appreciate any suggestions for places to stay, eat, visit and find wonderful music. |
You've chosen a great area to visit and should allow at least 5 days to adequately tour the area.
Plan to stay at least a night in Donegaltown - it centers around a diamond-shaped square with a great deal of small shops (esp. tweed). Plan on seeing the Sieve League for a great view. Visit Killybegs - a noteworthy sea-faring town as well an continue on to Ardara, Dungloe (seaside castle), and Gwedore for a fantastic tour of the countryside. The mafnificent Beltany Stone Circle is not to be missed either. Also, the Inishowen Peninsula area has great scenery, castles, and Celtic ruins (Stone crosses, circles, castles, etc.). Lastly, if possible, plan a trip to Aranmore Island to see fantastic ruins. |

I agree that you have chosen a wonderful place to visit. We enjoyed staying at the Woodhill House in Ardara. We also enjoyed visiting Glenvegh National Park and traveling the costal route. We followed the tour route suggested in the Fodor's Guide.

we're looking for a B&B or self-catering location to spend a couple days that has an ocean view, any suggestions? |

We visited lovely Donegal this past Oct(97), and particulary enjoyed a combination of B&B's and quite memorable country inns. We can hardly wait to return to Rathullan House, our very favorite. It's not cheap...but worth a one night's splurge. We loved every moment in Ireland, including North Ireland, and had wonderful weather in late fall after all the buses were gone. |
