Country with the worst food?
 

From your travel experiences,(Molvania,etc) which country do you feel has the worst food?

Why do you ask?

Still trying to get over the taste of the Scotch egg I had in Edinburgh in 1984.

Taiwan.

They eat <i>anything</i>. Without batting an eye. It is well known that there are no stray cats and dogs on the streets of Taipei.

The worst single meal I ever had in a restaurant was in Korea. But it was back in 1971 at a hotel school where they were teaching western hotel management and skills--including cooking western dishes. We obviously got the remedial cooking students on the morning we were there.

Ireland, both the Republic and Northern. I've been several times and I'm sorry to say I never had a tasty meal regardless of venue, price or selection. (But the people and beauty makes good food unnecessary!)

Best food consistently would be in Italy, best individual meals were in France.

However, I've never been to Korea...

Germany has lots of the <i>wurst</i> food. Does that count?

Egypt wasnt that good, best meal i got was a mcdonalds, saying that prices where good got an a la carte for &pound;10, but then the next night has a salad and was on the toilet pan for a week

I hate to say this but the worst meal I ever had was in Orlando!But at a dinner theatre so what should I have expected.

My girlfriend swears that Ukraine beats everywhere in the horrible food dept..except in private homes.

The worst food I've eaten in Europe was in England. Admittedly it was almost 20 yrs. ago, i assume it's gotten better. Haven't been back since 1986.

Worst I ever had was in Russia. But that was 1965 so hopefully things have improved.

Worst food I ever had was when working for the I.A.E.A in Egypt. My landlady would fix me a packed lunch as the facility I worked at in the desert did not have a place to buy food. If you can imagine a cold, fatty, mutton sandwich, you will understand how I lost so much weight on that trip.

You must have been served a bad Scotch Egg. I LOVE Scotch Eggs! Pork pies, too. (For those of you who have not tried one, a Scotch Egg is a hard-boiled egg, wrapped in a layer of sausage meat, coated in bread crumbs, and briefly deep fried to make the crust nice and crisp. Often served in pubs, along with a pint of your favorite brew. YUM!)

Consistently mysterious, hard to identify, fiery hot, reeking with garlic, served on lazy susans, soup served last...the envelope please: mainland China.

USNR, that must have been a parallel- universe China you visited - I loved almost everything I ate. As I put chillies and garlic into almost everything I cook I found the food a bit tame if anything, but we didn't get to Sichuan Province.

(I'm curious, though - on what do Chinese restaurants in the US serve the dishes at large tables, if not lazy susans? Or do Americans tend to order their own individual dishes rather than share - and put the soup first?)

I have to ask, what is with this trend of people asking &quot;what is the worst.....? Why focus on the negative? What benefit is it?

America. The restaurants have big yellow arches and have been exported all over the world. So there are places to avoid everywhere I go.

Some and some. For really large tables where people like to share, there are lazy susans provided in chinese restaurants in the States.

I, personally, know just what I want, order it, and eat it all. One reaching for my portion risks a chop stick laid smartly across the back of their hand.

Dear Neil. I am not sure where the previous poster has dined. In most New York City Cantonese (this cuisine is most represented here in NYC at this time) restaurants they will have a lazy susan for a banquet meal and of course, serve the soup afterwards, as is custom. If just a few of us, let's say, six persons, have dinner in New York City Manhattan Chinatown area, we will usually be seated at a large round table and just pass the dishes among ourselves, with help from the server.
Many times when one dines alone at the less upscale places (NY Noodletown, etc) , he or she will be seated at a large table with other diners. In that case, the waiter will deliver the food directly, more or less, to the one who has ordered.

Sorry if I seem pedantic..the posts on bad food in Taipei, for example, have really gotten my ire, so to speak....

I think it's a tie between France and Italy. Don't they know how to make a decent burger and fries?? And the wine in those countries, all I can say is YUK!! Give me a good bottle of Mogen Davids over that French and Italian crap any day of the week!!
