Country code for USA for long distance

I'm trying to register on Alitalia so I can buy tickets from Florence to Brussels but I have to register and they want my phone number here in the US with the country code. I called the phone company and they said it was 01 but they won't accept that. What is the country code for US? I can't seem to register without it and I don't know how else to find it. Thanks for any help

<BR>The USA country code is 1. The international access code for Italy is 00. Alitaia should know that.

While in Hungary and I called home, I was told my Country was 001 for American and I had to dial that along with the phone number in order to call here, or I could not get through. I did try to dial Just 1 and also 01, but they did not work for me there. Give them each number and see what happens. They should know it anyway! Alice.

<BR>There are two codes you need for international dialing. <BR>The first one is the "international access number" which allows you to dial FROM a country. This puts you on an international line from which you can theoretically dial any number in the world. For Italy and many countries in Europe the international access number is 00. For the USA this number is 011.<BR>The other number you need is the "country code" for the the country you are dialing TO. For the USA this number is just 1. For Italy it is 39.<BR>Country codes are usually indicated on business cards and letterheads with a plus sign in front. Thus, the USA country code would be indicated by +1, Italy by +39, France by +33, and on.<BR>My page www.enjoy-europe.com/hte/chap19/phone.htm has much more on using telephones, mail, email, and other forms of communicating. Keep in touch. Ciao.
