45 days unti I leave for England, my 5th visit there. I am starting to get prepared - the suitcase is out of the closet, I'm working on a wishlist of things to do and see. Since I've been there 4 times already and have visited all the most well known sites already, I think what I'm most interested in this time is seeking out the lesser known, off the well trod tourist path, places of interest. I'm hoping for at least a couple really nice days weather-wise because I want to take a boat trip up (or is it down?) the Thames from Westminster to Hampton Court, and visit Kew Gardens (not on the same day).

Hello everyone --

6 days! I'm so excited I can't even sleep anymore!! I have a whole slew of Eyewitness guides that I've been reading like a fanatic for months before this trip.

I am going to Rome (5 days), Paris (4 days) and Brussels (day trip from Paris). This is my first time to Rome, but second time to Italy, 3rd time to Paris and first time to Brussels. Oh, what's even cooler is I'm leaving my husband at home and taking my mom!! The girls do Europe -- woohoooooo!!!

I am very much looking forward to typing a trip report when I get back, because all the information I've received off of this board has been invaluable, and I hope to give something back!

Stacy

Stacy, looking forward to your trip report. I've done a few trips with my Mom, including Paris, and they were wonderful. Be sure to hit the Godiva mothership on the Grand Place in Brussels. To me, that was the pearly gates...

My next trip is BACK to the Caribbean to sail around with my family on a catamaran. We went for the first time 3 years ago, again last June and now it's become a tradition. Every two years we go. My father captains the boat. I'm the Caribbean Cruise Coordinator of each trip, sending out emails, planning the menus, collecting the quarterly payments.... Our next trip is 453 days away. I'm looking foward to doing absolutely nothing except stare at the beauty of this paradise, explore the uninhabited islands, shop at the lavendar, pink and blue shops and enjoy my family. This time I'd like to play with the flamingos on Anegada. Are they friendly?

Finally...after two years of planning (and waiting for the grandkids to get older), we are down to 86 days before our trip to Italy.

We are keeping our fingers crossed with Delta.

Next trip in June:
6 days in London, our 23rd trip. Mom lives here.
Then move on to France (5th for personal trip; plus 14 times business trip). Will not do Paris, but 2-weeks to roam around on wheels to Beaune, St-Remy, Carcasssonne, Bordeaux, Loire.
Most hotels are booked except 2. Definitely look forward to it.

Ahhhh!! Tomorrow we leave for Ireland. Our 5th trip. Am I packed? Nope. (Well, the airsick patch and the dramamine are packed, all the important stuff.) First two nights and last 3 are booked, 3 in the middle with no plans.
I'll hoist a Guinness to you all!

Reading this thread makes me think all roads & planes lead to Paris - and mine too!
End of May see us with a week in Paris, then on to Netherlands for 1 month home exchange, including a week in Brugges . . . that's why I'm continually heading back to this site for all the handy tips and info.
Happy travelling, Di

I will be doing a lot of traveling this year:

July - to the US (3 days in Atlanta, Ga. to attend a meeting, then up to New York to visit with friends); have been to both places several times, as I used to live in the US, but haven't been back since 1998;

August - a long trip, have to attend another meeting in Dahka, Bangladesh, will stop in Lisbon and New Delhi, India on my way there; have been to Lisbon several times, but never to India and Bangladesh;

September - another meeting, this time in Luxor, Egypt (never been there); will stop in Italy on the way back (with my daughter) and plan to visit Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan, from where I will fly back home (my daughter will stay with a 21 days Eurail pass to visit friends in Germany, France, Spain and Portugal).

Hello Everyone,

We are going to Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary for 3 weeks in July. The details are still being ironed out, although most have been finalized.

As we do for all trips, I check out this forum multiple times daily to see if there is any helpful information (thanks again). Often, there is a thread that adds practical/interesting ideas for our trip.

We will be visiting Prague, Salzburg, Vienna and Budapest. All four place sound wonderful. We are looking forward to our trip, but at this time, there is nothing we can’t wait to see. Our difficulty is knowing what we want to see. Our last trips were to Italy and France. There were many “must sees” in those two countries. The destinations on this year’s trip don’t have the same “famous” sites. We are really trying to do our homework and research each area for the best places to visit. I am sure we will enjoy this trip as much at the others. Every trip is an adventure.

Have fun,
Lydia

Four weeks from tonight, I'll be flying with my husband and parents over the Atlantic on our way to Scotland. My husband has been counting down this trip in weeks since the beginning of the year. He'll switch to days soon.

This is our first time to Scotland; we've been to England twice before (Cotswolds first, then Yorkshire).

Sometimes when I tell people of my travel plans, I get the feeling that they think I'm crazy (or something) for travelling with my parents (I'm in my 40's now). But, they're responsible for my love of travelling, and while they were raising me and my brother and sister, they really didn't get much chance to do more than tent camping. But my mother's dream was always to go to England. One day I came to the realization that the only way they would go is if we took them, so we made arrangements to go to England. It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip for them, except we repeated it again a couple of years later.

This year's trip was the outcome of trying to decide which Alaska cruise to go on. My father and I were pricing cruises and post-cruise tours, and he made a comment about how far the price of the cruise would go towards Scotland. I said, 'Suits me', and we scrapped Alaska for another time.

Like the OP, it's hard to say what I am most looking forward to...but I think mainly it will be a different landscape, with different air, foods, drinks, plants, ways of life. And spending time with my parents, who I don't get to see often, and who may not make it back to England again... or perhaps they will.

Off to London tomorrow morning with DH and our 2 kids. First time!

I'm trying to limit our bags to one carry-on each. After reading all the wonderful threads here, I think we'll be able to do it.

DH and I are off to Croatia in 8 weeks for 13 days. Now that will be a vacation!

Do you ever feel sort of amazed by your travel? For me, I am so happy to be traveling that until I land in my destination, I wont believe that it is actually happening. Maybe I am just a worrywart....

GoAway, I understand what you mean. I'm in my late 20s, and when I tell people I'm traveling with my parents, I get either "Why?" or "Oh..."

I don't care what anyone's reaction is to be honest with you. I have also found the only way they will travel is if I take them myself. Right now, we're working on taking them everywhere they've dreamed of. Then we start doing repeat trips to places they love. And honestly, I'd much rather travel with my mother, through whom I see where I get my sense of adventure and wanderlust. Traveling with my friends is fun but hard to schedule as we move on in life, traveling with my mom is priceless and easier to schedule as she's retired. I think it may help that I always have at least 1 or 2 trips a year with friends.

Getting back on topic, I have 10 days til final payment on our 14 night Baltic cruise, which means I'm about 70 days from our trip to London! It will be a repeat trip for my dad, but will be my mom and uncle's first trip to London, one of my favorite cities in the world. But before we London, we cruise first! We've never been to the Baltics before.

But since 70 days til our trip is too long a wait for my mother and me, we're plotting a trip to my other favorite place in the world, Florence, while we wait impatiently for our cruise. I think il porcellino is calling us long distance

We also have about 6 months til our trip to Taiwan and Japan. And then my trips with friends to San Diego (August) and L.A. (November).

We've already begun a countdown for our 2007 trips! My dad's never been to Amsterdam, wants to return to Florence/Rome/Venice, and would love to go to Paris. We're thinking of going in late March, so once he chooses a place, our official countdown will begin.

With so many trips upcoming, my boss better give me my raise FAST!!!
