Cottages in N. France/Scotland
I wondered if anyone can recommend any Scottish or French cottages to stop over New Year in.

We need at least 4 people possibly 6.

North France drivable, and Scotland is pretty open. Its so difficult judging from guides to get a true feel of the area or cottage itself.

Many thanks

Most self catering accomodation in Scotland closes for the winter, but you should be able to find enough places.Try:
http://www.scotsmart.com/cat/90.html
If you post asking about a specific place you may get better info.Bear in mind that sunset is at 3pm and travel conditions can be poor.

I'll post a heap of web addresses for you for when I get home tonight. They are all on here somewhere already.

But if you're talking about this year, I fear you may find they are heavily booked. As a veteran of 20+ years organising self catering trips at New Year in Scotland, I can tell you that I book at the latest by April. Indeed I've booked for next year already.

As to France, why not Brittany? (where would you sail from?) I can let you have a few contacts on that too.

You will probably have better luck in France. As Sheila says most places in Scotland will be totally booked up for this coming New year. Plus that week Scottish self catering properties charge more than any other time of the year. A nice cottage that rents for £250 per week in early Dec would be nearer £750 for New Years.

Sorry, I don't have any suggestions for French cottages - I'm sure you will get some good ones tho'.

We rented a small cottage at the Prieure St. Michel in Crouttes, Normandy (near Vimoutiers) in the Camembert area this summer. the Prieure was marvelous--especially the gardens which of course would be dead in winter. They also had a beautiful larger cottage with fireplace, large new kitchen, 2 baths and several bedrooms. I thibnk the cost was around E700 for a week. I found them on the Karen Brown web site.
