Cottages in Ireland for 6 to 8 people

Hello:

We are planning a visit to Ireland this May for 6 to 8 people, flying from the US into Shannon airport. I’m looking for recommendations for self catering cottages or houses with 4 or 5 bedrooms for 1 week. We would like to visit Rock of Cashel, Ring of Kerry or Dingle, Cliffs of Mohr, Donegal. Can anyone recommend a cottage or reservation service? Does anyone have any experience with Imagine Ireland? Since there are so many people we would like to do day trips, instead of changing location every night. We will have two cars.

Also looking for don’t miss sites and beautiful/unique photo op’s

Thanks!

here is just one that would work for you. http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/dingle/28920

The same agency has many others as well.

You will have a hard time finding a 5 bedroom "cottage". But most holiday lets w/ 3 bedrooms will be set up to handle 6 to 8 people. And of course a 4 bdrm would work too.

janisj, I notice the rates on that website are in pounds sterling. Many other sites have rates in euros. With the abysmal exchange rate it might be better to rent from a company charging in euros.

Do the math Katie before renting.

Most cottages rent from Sat to Sat for a week. How long do you have? Will you be choosing a couple of different areas to rent cottages or just one?

Once you know where you are staying people can help with suggestions for other things.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll take a look at the website, hping to find some prices in Euro's. We will be staying in place and doing day trips. We will be in Ireland for 1 week, arriving on a Saturday.

"With the abysmal exchange rate it might be better to rent from a company charging in euros."

Actually, it makes no difference if the rates are quoted in €, £, $ - or ¥ for that matter. It is what the rate equals in your home currency that tells you what the place will cost.

(BTW - the €/$ exchange rate currently is even worse in real terms than the £/$ rate. But that is an entirely different discussion)

janisj, I said it "may" be better to rent a cottage displaying prices in euros. Then I told the OP to do the math before renting. Thank you for repeating my advice.

Katie7, I just looked at the cottage link janisj so kindly provided. It looks like a very nice property. If you rented that particular cottage in Ventry and were using US dollars the exchange rate today would be about: 607 British Pound = 1,241.76 US Dollars.

If you rent the exact same cottage from this link: http://www.vrbo.com/126607 the cost would be about: 550 Euro = 809.76 US Dollars.

Because of the differing exchange rates between the euro, pound sterling and dollar, renting in euros would save $432.

You can use this site to compare exchange rates: http://www.oanda.com/

Do the math yourself and you can save money.

You will get a lot of differing advice and excellent info here on Fodors. Use it wisely and you will find what you need.

I stayed here for a week last year www.thetudorlodge.com , and it worked out great for our party of nine. It's mile or two from Killarney town center and has 5 bedrooms, all ensuite. From here we saw Killarney Nat'l Park, Ring of Kerry, Blarney Castle and more. Good luck.
