Cottage on Dingle Peninsula
My hubby and I recently came back from the best vacation we've ever had. We both wanted a trip where we could relax, enjoy the countryside and weren't cramming site after site in, afraid we were going to miss something.
Thanks to posters on this forum, we were introduced to Couminole Cottage on Slea Head Drive on the Dingle peninsula. As you may remember, this is a 200 year old famine cottage that has been refurbished to include all the modern amenities that a vacationer needs. The cottage is right in the middle of some of the most breathtaking countryside you will ever see. Rolling green hills to the back and the Atlantic Ocean and Blasket Islands to the front. We spent every day sitting outside, drinking Guiness or tea, watching the ocean, while the cars and tour busses went by. The weather was perfect (for us Minnesotans), 60-65 degrees and sunny. Nights were spent reading by the peat fire. It couldn't have been any better. The location is great - although we chose to stay put, other than the occasional trip into Dingle, it is within easy driving distance to many of the sites in southwestern Ireand The owners, Bill and Susan, provided everything we needed to have a comfortable and memorable stay. We highly recommend checking out this self catering cottage - you will not be disappointed. The website is www.couminolecottage.com. We will definitely be going back - hubby says 2009, I'm pushing for 2008! |
o1012,
I think it was Songdoc who stayed in that cottage? I'm so glad you had such a good time. I think if I could go back to only one place in Ireland it would be Dingle. How about writing us a longer report of your trip. I love reading them. Joan |
It is such a gorgeous area...the cottage looks beautiful.
Is it isolated...are there other cottages surrounding it? Did you go to the Blasket Islands? The weather didn't cooperate while we were there so we settled for a trip to the Blasket Island Museum...it was wonderful! Thanks for sharing your info!! |
Yes, it was me who posted how much I loved Couminole cottage. I'm so glad you liked it as much as I did. I wish I were there right now!!!
I just learned today that I'll be returning to Ireland (to teach a master class) next October. I'm THRILLED!!! Don't know which part of the country the class will be in, so I can't start planning and obsessing quite yet! |
SongDoc,
Maith thú! Congratulations on your excellent news. You must consider that an early holiday gift! I wish you much success! Slan Beo, Bit |
Thanks so much, Songdoc, for your recommendation. It couldn't have been better! That's great you have an opportunity to visit Ireland again!
We didn't get to the Blaskets as the ferry wasn't running. There are lots of other homes surrounding the cottage - if fact, the building right next to Couminole Cottage had a "Sales Agreed" sign on it and I was wishing it was me who agreed to it! I'm working on my trip report - it's half way done. I'll post as soon as I finish! |
