If you'd like to stay in a small village and don't mind driving to dinner, I can recommend Clapton Manor in Clapton-on-the-Hill, quite close to Bourton-on-the-Water. I stayed there one night on a long walk across the Gloucestershire countryside and wished it could have been much longer. Good information for places and restaurants on the website. As an aside, and not to hijack the thread... we have been watching "Father Brown" on Netflix. It really is a travelogue for the Cotswolds...

I enjoy Father Brown too. It is apparently not filmed in one town but in several places in and around the Cotswolds.
