Cotswold area for quiet sightseeing
We will be in the Gloucestershire area for a wedding in Mid October.
We will have 4 days to spend in the area before arriving at the wedding hotel. If we stayed in Broadway and we have a car, would that be an OK spot for touring the cotswold areas for our 4 days. Thanks |
I think Broadway would be fine. We stayed in Armscote near Stratford-upon-Avon and were able to drive to all the Cotwold villages quite easily. Broadway was very charming and quiet compared to the other towns.

We first discovered Broadway in the late 70's...and although we've used other bases a few times since, we returned to B'dway a year ago springtime...it is a very practical base, IMO. We stayed at a small B and B in the center of town and liked it very much...good parking, delightful hosts, fine accomodations, large rooms and large en suite bathrooms, full English breakfasts....."Small Talk B and B"...

Broadway is just fine (as would be any number of other villages).
If you've found a place you like in Broadway, go for it. If you haven't yet set on a place -- then Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford, or others in the same general area would be great too . . . . (no lack of wonderful villages w/i a few miles) |
Thank you everyone. You all seem to think that Broadway would be a fine choice. So Now where to stay. I have looked at the Leasow House B&B and now the smalltalk Lodge B&B.
Any one have any other suggestions or remarks on these. Thanks Stu for your imput. |
I forgot to add, I am also looking at the Olive Branch.
Thanks again, Merlot |
Merlot...I remember walking past the Olive Branch...lovely looking place...from the looks of their web page, it may be a bit more luxurious than Small Talk...rates seem to be close. Don't think you can go wrong either way...both are on High Street in the middle of town, whereas Leasow is a way out in the countryside. Your choice. You're in for a lovely visit either way. (Take tea at Tisanes across the High Street from Small Talk, and there's even a small tea room in the shop abutting the lodge).

Thank you all for the replies. I am now set with 3 nights anyways at The olive Branch in Broadway and I will travel around from there.

I stayed at the Olive Branch a few years ago and it was great. The hosts are lovely. I wonder if Zulu the black lab is still around... he was a newly-arrived pup when we stayed there!
