I won;t go into Nice vs Cannes vs ST - that is a personal matter.

But whatever you do - don;t stay in the hinterlands and have to trek back and forth every morning - and more important, every evening. If you're clubbing - how to get back to the end of hell and gone at 2 am - never mind changing from beach wear to club wear at 9 or 10 pm.

Sueciv- I'm trying to get in touch with Sube. Although they are around $400/night this time of year..
Part of the problem is booking late, the other part is the published rates for this period are crazy expensive regardless of when you book.

Oaktown - thanks will check out ibis as a backup.. But trying to stay in the middle of it all.. May have to just part with the $$ this time round.. People were right when they said south of France was expensive - expensive is one thing, but such poor value for money is another.. Oh we'll.. You only live once I suppose :)

I've had good luck using Sawdays to find more unique places to stay in France.

Five minute taxi ride from the clubs in St. Tropez to the hotel.

I vacation each year in St Tropez but we stay in one of the little towns near by. Honestly, it's fabulous and not a big deal if you have a car, if you didn't it would be another story. The reason it's fine is that the town and the beach area are far apart and you need to drive from one to the other so what would be the difference if you stayed in one of the smaller towns.
Towns that I like: Ramatuelle really is part of the the pampallone beach area, great views, Gassin also has fabulous views and restaurant, Grimaud is a bit farther, 10 miles?, charming old town and Cogolin, although not charming is a real town with great restaurants.. But, even if you stay in ST you will still need to drive to the beach area and not knowing the back goat roads, it will be congested to say the least.
I'm just suggesting this if you didn't want to spend the $400 at the Stube, which I'm shocked by the price, but it does have a good location especially if you get a room facing the port.
